Digital camera blocking technology created

Researchers at Georgia Tech have created a prototype device that can make digital camera and video cameras unusable.

The devise is able to detect CCD chips in these devices and targets beam of light at them, casting a bright white light on the chip. This makes the resulting image overexposed.

An article from Technology Review describes more. While the article discusses CCDs, it does not discuss another imaging chip used: the CMOS.

If this works, this would certainly be a boon to anti-paparazzi measures or as a way for the government to stop pictures being taken on federal government grounds.

Of course, you could just use the old fashion method of film to get around this.
