ACC to introduce the “Boston College Rule”
“Unfortunately, we were the guinea pigs that had to suffer going to a bowl that people didn’t think we deserved to go to….Fortunately, the ACC is changing things so it won’t happen again.” — Boston College guard Josh Beekman (source ESPN)
Last year, Boston College’s football program had to be thinking whether or not joining the ACC was in their best interests after being banished to the blue field of the MPC Bowl in Boise despite a 9-3 overall and 5-3 league play. After that experience, BC’s next order of business was to place a call to Greensboro and suggest changes in bowl placement that may have already been on league official’s minds.
ESPN is reporting that today the league will announce new bowl order placements, based on final rankings in league play. They are as follows:
ACC champion to the Bowl Championship Series
No. 2 - Peach Bowl in Atlanta
No. 3 - Gator Bowl in Jacksonville,
No. 4 - Champs Sports Bowl in Orlando,
No. 5 - Gaylord Hotels Music City Bowl in Nashville, Tenn.,
No. 6 - Meineke Car Care Bowl in Charlotte, N.C.,
No. 7 - Emerald Bowl in San Francisco 4
No. 8 - MPC Computers Bowl in Boise
Last year, Boston College tied for third with two other teams (FSU and GA Tech). With the new system, it would have been in feasible to be blue turf bound.
