Sportsnet.ca is reporting that Carolina Hurricanes head coach Peter Laviolette has signed a 5 year contract extension to stay in Raleigh. He will be paid 1 million a year after winning the Stanley Cup.

Despite your want to become North Carolina’s sport’s city, the RTP area takes another honor from you. First we beat you (too many times too count) winning NCAA titles. Now we’ve won NC’s first and only professional sports title. Your Panthers have certainly given everything they’ve got. And we’re not sure if Charlotte really has an NBA team; only time we hear about them is if a former Tar Heel has a good night. How about stick with things you do well, like gridlock.
